Thriller Film Review - Shutter Island
Shutter Island is based in 1954, we're told, the Island is a remote off Boston prison for the criminally insane. The film starts with the main charater Teddy Daniels, a US Marshall (played by Leonardo DiCaprip) and his sidekick Chuck Aule (played by Mark Ruffalo) on a boat on the way to the prison. We fond out later they are assigned to investigate the disappearance of a child murderer. Throughout the film we see flashbacks of Teddy's past trauma involving scenes from the war. In the 1950s the term "post-traumatic shock syndrome" was not then in use, but its symptoms could be seen in Teddy. Later on in the film we seem to realise the Island is not what it first seemed to be and that there may be soemthing more sinister behind all of the secrets and illusions. The film is filled with atmosphere, ominous portents, the wearing away of Teddy's confidence and even his identity.

Shutter Island was originally meant to be released in the US on October 2nd, however due to Paramount being unsure about the economy at that time, they pushed the release date back to February 19th in the hope that the adult audience will be in a better financial situation. The film has had mixed responses from critics and audiences, although most are positive. Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it a score of 6.6/10, while IMDb gave it a score of 8/10. Killer movie reveiws says ‘Scorsese delivers the tension from first frame to last with a deliberately low-key mood that amps up the eeriness. It imbues even the most benign actions with a sinister ambiguity.'
